BIG LEAGUE CHEW. Found these in a shop a couple of days ago. It's a bubble gum brand created by two baseball players.
Could only find these two variations but will post up more packets if i can find them.

I looked back over this issue yesterday and read this Peter Saville interview again; this is a very insightful piece of writing on how saville saw the future of art and what his takes on art culture and design were, and where it has gone. Definitely worth a read. the magazine design is beautiful also

POUR LES OISEAUR. The Kiosk exhibition closed on Saturday, so we went back to look one last time. This was a beautiful book; the photography was really capturing, and was formatted a different size to the text pages. The format was a simple idea, but was produced so cleanly. the red sticker on the back was a nice touch.

FANTASTIC MAN - ISSUE #6 - ADAM KIMMEL

Fantastic man Adam Kimmel. Picked up the current issue of Fantastic Man last week; found it in the Walker Art Centers' book shop,- was pretty lucky to find a copy over here. The title and boarder for the cover are in gold,- looks stupidly fucking nice.
My favorite article was on New York menswear designer; 'Adam Kimmel'. The article is titled 'THE ALL-IN-ONE'. The photography for this piece was shot by 'Alexei Hay'; Kimmels half brother, and the article is a real interesting read; It follows an interview with Kimmel, whom seems to be a designer that's built on the idea of creating something to fulfill a need.
In all photos posted, except for the one shot on the fire escape, Adam is wearing unijohns from his current collection.

Saw this advert in the 'Art Directors Club' exhibition. The advertisement is a series of four TV adverts. the adverts are done by Jeh United Ltd. They were produced and broadcast in Thailand.
such nice details to the production- loads of small ideas in here.

MIKE PERRY

Mike Perry gave a lecture last week at MCAD.
Mike Perry's a graphic deigner who's got his own studio in NY. He used to work for urban outfitters, doing alot of their design; he created quite a few of their logos and did a catalogue and the website. His work involves alot of hand drawn type and patterns, obviously has a real urban outfitters aesthetic to it. he's got alot of good clients at the moment, works for himself, seems to be cranking out the work, works on his own projects at the same time (he's got his own magazine, has just published a book, and sells t-shirts) and is a very happy guy. His lecture was relevant as he's doing pretty damb well for himself, and only graduated about 5 years ago.
It seems that his work really developed loads whilst he was in industry, he was just hungry and wanted to do well; he was saying that he'd stay at urban after hours and start working on things that it wasn't his job to do.- He stared drawing out urban outfitters logos, and would show them to other staff, and they'd say not to show them to the women in charge of choosing logos, but he would anyway because he wanted to, and they'd get used.
he was being honest all the way through his lecture and telling us about things he regrets doing, and giving advice from his experiences; one thing he said, it sounds really obvious but you never really realise it, is to put work in your portfolio that you want to be hired to create; so if you want to be hired to create posters put posters in, if you want to be hired to create t-shirts, put t-shirts in.- enjoyed the lecture alot.

WALID RAAD - UNTITLED (1987-2007)

I went to see the 'Brave new worlds' exhibition at the Walker Art Center, in Minneapolis, a couple of weeks ago. The show exhibited work by 24 contemporary artists. The work exhibited was pretty diverse, and although all pieces obviously tied to the title of the exhibition, not all pieces were there to take a strong political stance; For a good explanation of the exhibition click on this W to get to the Walker Art Center site.
the picture that i've posted was a piece that was framed with about 20 others, as part of a series, by Walid Raad. Each piece was a scan from the same book, and showed a black and white photo of a place, with a load of different sizes and colours of circle stickers stuck onto it. The photos were all taken whilst Raad was living in a war zone, between 1987-2007 and were shot in different countries. Raad would go out of house at night, after the shootings had stopped, and would collect dead bullets out of the walls, trees, cars and where ever they got shot into. He would then take a photo of the place he collected the bullets from. Bullet manufacturers colour the tips of their bullets, so they can be identified. The stickers on each of the photos were placed where he found the bullets, the colour of the sticker corresponds to the colour found on the tip of the bullet, and the size of the sticker corresponded to the diameter of the bullet.

Greener New York. 'The Art Directors Club' awards are being exibited at MCAD at the moment. got pretty excited when i saw these posters- such a nice concept. The Posters were created by Pratt institute for the client 'Trees New York'.

VOODOO DOUGHNUT

It was my friends birthday on Friday. They walked into the studio that morning with a voodoo doughnut. very impressed. I think someone got it at a specialist douhnut shop, in a differtent city. I'll see if i can find out the information, and i'll post it up.

Found out the shop's in Portland Oregon.- supposed to be pretty special.

To hell with gravity. Just found this Nike T on the We Sold Out site. The T was made in collaboration with Experimental Jetset, and is in limited edition. It comes as a set, with a pair of 'with hell to gravity' Y-fronts. It's sold out on the 'We sold out' site and can't find it anywhere in these colours. If you find it for sale somewhere, please let me know, will be much appreciated.

NONE OF THE BUILDINGS ON SUNSET STRIP - JONATHAN MONK

None of the buildings on the sunset strip. I looked at this book at the same time i saw the Ari Marcopoulos book i posted. This book was published by Revolver, and was only released as an edition of 500 copies. It was edited by Christopher Keller; the guy that does the 'Kiosk - Modes of multiplication' exhibition, and founder of Revolver. Every page is a full bleed Photo of a street, was printed on real nice stock. a really sweet book to look through, But i can't find any copies at all.

'FROM THE STREET TO THE NIGHT' AT COLETTE

From the street to the night. Colette is opening their 'from the street to the night' exhibition tomorrow. The exhibition is showing photography that is normally only seen on-line. The idea of the exhibition is to show the work of people who are setting trends through photo-blogs. it explores the fast media of the digital camera and blogging, and how these can capture culture in a disposable sense. the photography is about how fast style/events/dailylife are being recorded and shared; the photographers capture the culture in an almost day by day sense, yet retain a style to thier work whilst going along.

Another book from Kiosk. Another Nieves publication.
Nick Haymes was born in England, but is now a New York resident; since 2000. This is his first book.
This whole book is photos of Kids skating and messing around. The books only 32 pages, but there's somthing very satisfying about it. The kids are from his extended family.

This was a zine i saw at the Kiosk exhibition.
I was Just looking on the new Nieves site and realised that this was published by them. i think it may have been in pile next to the Nieves publications, belonging to a different publishers- so i thought it was by a different publisher, or i may just be confused.
I was very taken by the cover.
The zine is by a Swiss photographer called Linus Bill.

KIOSK - MODES OF MULTIPLICATION

KIOSK at Midway Gallery. Kiosk is a collection of indepentent and arthouse publications; Zines, Magazines, books and films, comprised by Christoph Keller, the founder of Frankfurt-based 'Revolver' publishers. This collection has been travleing as an exhibit since 2001, and has been growing as it moves. The collection is at around 6000 publications. I found so many sweet zines and magazines here. I'll post up stuff i found above.

CAP AND GLASSES TWO-IN-ONE

Had an idea to create a cap and glasses two-in-one. The sunglasses would have no ear stem things and would be attached to the peak of the cap.
I'm going to use second hand, 80's - early 90's American, caps and glasses.

Baseball box. Found another WHEATIES box today, this time with a baseball player. i thought that they might bring out a series with more basketball players on, but now i'm not too sure if that’s going to happen. I'll keep posting up the new WHEATIES boxes, and see if i can find more players.

SIDEWALK CHALK

Characters made out of chalk. I like the fact that for some reason they've decided to create characters out of vegetables and sea creatures, seems to be a satisfying combination.
I just watch the film "The squid and the whale" tonight; if you haven’t seen it I’d definitely recommend watching it.

Mark Hunter. This guy just did alot of photography for Urban Outfitters; a couple of special lookbooks, one dedicated to mens trainers and the other to womens shoes. Posted are a couple of his photos from these books. Reading the back of the books is say that "Mark is a Jewish guy from LA who started photographing his friends at parties and documenting them on his blog thecobrasnake.com " it says that he went on to make a career out of taking pictures of other peoples friends. Not too sure how original this is, seems that it's been going on for a while, but he takes nice pictures.

My flash on the camera messed this photo up a bit, the turquoise colour i think is actually paitent, but the picture doesn't show this. Although these are only Dunks, the colour way is pretty nice.

WONDER BREAD SANDWICH CONTAINER

Probably the best thing i've seen since i’ve been here; A LUNCH BOX SHAPED LIKE A SANDWICH. congratulations.
Plus if any one also knows the WONDER BREAD packaging (pretty much the same branding as on the packaging for this), it's pretty sweet as well - may post a picture of it later on. You can also see it in the first HOME ALONE when Kevin goes to the store to get groceries.
